About

Welcome to my world. I'm Sienna Brown, I create unique stories that transport you to another time and place. Creativity in all its myriad forms is the default filter through which I view the world. It's what engages all my senses, and keeps me on the path of discovery.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, I spent my childhood there, before moving to Toronto, Canada where, I was a professional dancer with Toronto Dance Theatre - this gave me discipline, focus and the richness of sensory interchange between mind and body, movement, rhythm, & space.

After moving to Sydney, I graduated from the Australian Film Television and Radio School with a BA in directing and editing. I formed Pine Street Films through which I produced, directed and wrote award winning documentaries and educational films, expanding my skills by exploring story through images and sound.

Behind it all, there have always been words. Communication. The love of language, the beauty of books. Black letters on the white page. Emotional moments threaded together, to tell and retell the ongoing story of what it means to be human and our place in an ever evolving, expanding world.

My debut novel Master of My Fate, published in 2019 by Penguin Random House, won the MUD Literary Prize at Adelaide Writers Week for the best debut novel by an Australian writer and was shortlisted for the ARA Historical Fiction Novel Prize, in 2020.

In conjunction with Dr Ben Etherington, I was commissioned by ABC Radio National, the History Listen Series to create Caribbean Convicts in Australia, a podcast based on my research for Master, broadcast November, 2021.

2023 - 2025, I was a Research Associate at Western Sydney University through the Writing & Society Research Centre. Where, under the auspices of an ARC grant, along with Ben, I developed and co-produced Callaloo & Wattleseed, a unique one-day symposium, that focused for the first time on the cultural contributions of Caribbean Australians, in the arena of music, education, literature and performance.

I recently presented Caribbean Echoes, a six part podcast series for Impact Studio's, History Lab exploring the stories of Caribbean people in Australia.

I also continue to write, my second historical fiction novel: Secrets of the Monkey House, set in 1930s Kingston, Jamaica and Saint Ann’s Bay is ready for publication.

And my third novel The Stream Universe, a speculative fiction trilogy is in development.
